RSNA Spotlight Course Brings AI Innovation to Barcelona
Two-day course equips radiologists and health care leaders with practical tools for successful AI adoption

Radiologists and health care professionals will gather in Barcelona this fall for Radiology Reimagined: Advancing Clinical Practice Through AI Innovation, an RSNA Spotlight Course designed to translate AI concepts into real-world clinical practice.
The two-day program, scheduled for Oct. 16–17 at the Hilton Barcelona, will provide participants with essential frameworks, case-based insights and interactive learning opportunities to guide the deployment of AI in clinical settings.
“This Spotlight Course is a deep dive into how end users can practically deploy AI in their institutions,” said course director Nina Kottler, MD, MS, associate chief medical officer for clinical AI at Radiology Partners. “While there are many AI products available, too few make it into routine clinical practice, meaning patients aren’t yet benefiting from these innovations."
"A big reason for this challenge is the lack of guidance on how to deploy these tools," Dr. Kottler added. "This course is designed to bridge that gap, moving AI from the lab into the clinic.”
Practical Tools, Real-World Applications
Faculty will guide attendees through a structured process that addresses AI before, during and after deployment. Sessions will cover use case identification, validation methods, cost and ROI considerations, workflow integration and strategies for continuous monitoring.
“Right now, AI deployment in radiology is kind of like the Wild West,” Dr. Kottler said. “Everyone is trying to do something, but there’s not enough shared best practices. We specifically chose faculty with hands-on experience using AI tools in practice so they can share lessons learned over time.”
“Here, you interact with faculty throughout the course—in lectures, in discussions and during breaks. By the end, you’ll have applied what you’ve learned and know what it feels like to bring these practices home.”

Faculty member Charles E. Kahn, Jr., MD, MS, professor and vice chair of radiology at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and editor of Radiology: Artificial Intelligence, emphasized the importance of preparing radiologists to engage with both technology and vendors.
“This course equips participants to evaluate claims, ask the right questions and understand how AI integrates into workflow,” Dr. Kahn said. “We’ll explore not only the science of AI, but also the human-AI interaction and how clinicians and tools can collaborate effectively.”
He added that he is particularly looking forward to helping attendees improve their approach to AI adoption. “It’s critical that radiologists understand the basics of how AI works, how to evaluate and monitor its performance, and how to think critically about it,” Dr. Kahn said.

Interactive Learning, Distinguished Faculty
Unlike large-scale conferences, RSNA Spotlight Courses feature small-group settings where participants can directly engage with faculty. Barcelona attendees will benefit from hands-on exercises, case discussions and networking opportunities with colleagues from around the globe.
“It’s very different from being one face in a crowd of thousands,” Dr. Kottler said. “Here, you interact with faculty throughout the course—in lectures, in discussions and during breaks. By the end, you’ll have applied what you’ve learned and know what it feels like to bring these practices home.”
A highlight of the program will be an interactive session on day two, where participants apply course concepts to practical scenarios, simulating the decisions and evaluations required for successful AI deployment.
In addition to Drs. Kottler and Kahn, the course brings together an accomplished international faculty with deep expertise in deploying and researching AI, including Björn Jobke, MD; Amine M. Korchi, MD; and Jason A. Poff, MD.
“It’s a joy to participate in this course with such amazing faculty members,” Dr. Kahn said. “These people bring a solid understanding of AI but also have leadership roles in their organizations where they’ve gained experience in directing the selection and implementation of AI systems.
Listen as Dr. Kottler shares insights into the AI adoption landscape and explains how the course curriculum addresses key elements of the AI lifecycle.
Shaping AI’s Future in Barcelona
“AI is the future, and if you’re not learning how to use it now, you risk being left behind,” Dr. Kottler said. “This is your opportunity to gain real-world insights from people who have been in the trenches. You’ll fast forward your knowledge and walk away with tools you can apply immediately.”
“AI in radiology is advancing quickly, and this course is about making sure radiologists and health care professionals have the knowledge and skills to lead that change,” Dr. Kahn said. “We want attendees to return to their institutions ready to champion AI adoption in ways that improve care and enhance practice.”
Dr. Kahn added that the program reflects RSNA’s broader mission. “RSNA is a global leader in radiology education,” he said. “This Spotlight Course showcases the Society’s depth of knowledge in AI, while making that expertise accessible to an international audience.”
Barcelona offers a fitting backdrop for this global program. “Barcelona is a vibrant city with a rich history,” Dr. Kahn said. “The venue for the course itself is a beautiful and historic hospital that dates back to 1401.”
“It’s one of the world’s most inspiring cities,” Dr. Kottler added. “You’ll gain high-quality education, global perspectives and unforgettable opportunities to collaborate.”
