The impact of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) on radiology and the importance of defining value in medical imaging are the focus of two plenary lectures planned for Tuesday, Nov. 28, at RSNA 2017.

“Machine Learning in Radiology: Why and How,” is the topic of the RSNA/AAPM (American Association of Physicists in Medicine) Symposium to be presented by Keith J. Dreyer, DO, PhD, and Antonio Criminisi, PhD, at 10:30 a.m. in Room E451B.

Dr. Dreyer will discuss how radiology can utilize ML and AI improve the quality and relevance of imaging and benefit patients. Dr. Criminisi will speak on the potential of assistive AI for cancer treatment.

The Annual Oration in Diagnostic Radiology, “Strategies for Radiology to Thrive in the Value Era,” will be presented by Jonathan B. Kruskal, MD, PhD, at 1:30 p.m. in the Arie Crown Theater.

Dr. Kruskal will discuss the challenges in defining value in the context of medical imaging for providers and patients.
