October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Radiologists continue to encourage the importance of early intervention and mammography

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and the second leading cause of death in women. At least 12% of the female population in the U.S. will be affected by breast cancer during their lifetime.

Radiologists continue to be strong advocates for the importance of breast cancer screening, especially mammography.  Since the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, many patients have postponed or skipped screening mammograms. The potential negative impact of missed cancer screenings will reverberate through the health care community for years.
