Deadline is Feb. 28 for CMS Annual Call for Measures and Activities

Submission to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Annual Call for Measures and Activities for the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) are due by Tuesday, Feb. 28.

The CMS Annual Call for Measures and Activities of the MIPS track of the Quality Payment Program (QPP) allows clinicians, organizations and other stakeholders such as researchers and consumer groups to identify and submit:

  • Quality measures for the quality performance category;
  • Electronic health record (EHR) measures for the advancing care information performance category; and
  • Activities for the improvement activities performance categories for consideration.

Quality measures help CMS link outcomes that relate to one or more quality goals for healthcare, including effective, safe, efficient, patient-centered, equitable and timely care.

The QPP was created under the 2015 Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA), which repealed the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula. MACRA also replaced existing quality programs with the QPP in which physician payment is based on participation in one of two pathways: MIPS or Alternative Payment Models (APMs), which reward physicians based on performance data and participating in new payment and delivery models.

Recommendations submitted to CMS after February 28, 2017 will be considered for inclusion in future years.
