Radiologists and care teams will gather at RSNA headquarters this summer for Essentials in Pediatric Imaging: A Team-Based Approach. This RSNA Spotlight Course is designed to meet the needs of all imaging providers who want to enhance their pediatric imaging competency and decision-making skills.

Interpreting pediatric imaging can be especially challenging for radiologists who encounter these exams less frequently. This in-person program, slated for June 25–26 in Oak Brook, IL, will include high-yield, case-based sessions designed to strengthen diagnostic confidence, sharpen pattern recognition and provide strategies attendees can apply in everyday practice.

“By focusing on real-world cases and common clinical scenarios, attendees will gain practical knowledge they can immediately utilize when interpreting pediatric imaging studies,” said course director Richard E. Heller III, MD, a pediatric radiologist, senior vice president at Radiology Partners and clinical associate at the University of Chicago Medicine, Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago. “From improving diagnostic accuracy to recognizing subtle findings unique to children, the goal is to help attendees deliver the highest quality care for their youngest patients.”

The course delivers what participants have come to expect from RSNA Spotlight Courses: top notch, practical education led by expert faculty, paired with a distinct and engaging destination.

Beyond the classroom, participants can take advantage of the area’s amenities. Located just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, Oak Brook offers visitors an upscale mix of luxury shopping, exceptional dining and convenient access to major airports and downtown attractions.

“The proximity to Chicago really enhances the experience,” Dr. Heller said. “With easy travel, great dining nearby and iconic landmarks, the summer setting allows participants to enjoy everything Chicago has to offer while engaging in high-quality, immersive education at RSNA headquarters.”

Addressing Knowledge Gaps and Refreshing Skills

The course curriculum is built around collaborative, team-based instruction, with expert-led case reviews, breakout sessions and interactive discussions. Topics include emergency, neuro, chest, abdominal and musculoskeletal imaging, as well as neonatal intensive care unit studies.

Dedicated sessions also address child abuse protocols, contrast media use, protocol selection and radiation safety considerations.

“This course is ideal for all radiologists, advanced practice providers and technologists who don’t image children every day but want to feel more confident and informed when they do,” said course director Leslie E. Partridge, RRA, MS, RT(R), a radiologist assistant at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.  “It’s designed to refresh knowledge gaps and give the entire care team practical tools they can put into practice right away.”

Participants will work through common clinical questions, such as distinguishing pneumonia from other pediatric chest findings or selecting the most appropriate modality in emergency cases.

“We will focus on real-world, practical strategies and decision-making that supports safe, high-quality pediatric care,” Partridge said.

A dedicated networking event will create space for meaningful connection, giving attendees the opportunity to connect and exchange insights with faculty and peers who are tackling similar clinical challenges practice.
