RSNA Journal Impact Factor Shows Major Gains Across the Portfolio
Radiology: Artificial Intelligence ranks first and fifth in its categories, and open-access Radiology Advances receives its first Journal Impact Factor
All RSNA journals have increased their Journal Impact Factors, some by a wide margin, according to the Clarivate Analytics Journal Citation Reports.
Journal Impact Factor uses citation data to measure the relevance and influence of academic journals. With a seven-point gain in its Journal Impact Factor over 2024, Radiology: Artificial Intelligence significantly broadened its influence, ranking first and fifth in relevant categories and reinforcing RSNA’s leadership in AI research and the practical, ethical application of AI in medical imaging. RSNA’s flagship journal, Radiology, was cited nearly 62,000 times in 2025. RSNA’s open-access journal, Radiology Advances, which launched in 2024, received its first Journal Impact Factor.

Expanding Influence and Leadership
Radiology: Artificial Intelligence, launched in 2019, focuses on the application of emerging technology in radiology. Topics include the impact of AI on diagnostics and patient care, AI’s role in radiology education, and the ethical implications that AI presents in the medical field.
Edited by Charles E. Kahn Jr., MD, Radiology: Artificial Intelligence led the field in 2025, with a Journal Impact Factor of 20.1, a significant jump from its 2024 Journal Impact Factor of 13.2. The journal had 4,771 citations, placing it first among 217 journals in the Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Medical Imaging category and fifth among 210 journals in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence category.
Radiology is the world’s foremost journal for new, important and translatable discoveries in medical imaging research and provides meaningful information to medical imaging physicians and scientists aiming to improve health and reduce the burden of disease. It is the most cited journal in its field.
Radiology has a Journal Impact Factor of 17.6, an increase of more than two points over its 2024 Journal Impact Factor of 15.2. Edited by Suhny Abbara, MD, Radiology was cited 61,752 times and ranks third in Journal Citation Indicator and Journal Impact Factor among 217 journals in the Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Medical Imaging category.
Published since 1923, Radiology has long been recognized as the authoritative reference for the most current, clinically relevant and highest quality research in the field of radiology. Each month, the journal publishes peer-reviewed original research, authoritative reviews and expert opinion on new techniques and technologies.
Radiology: Imaging Cancer, edited by Gary D. Luker, MD, has expanded its influence with a Journal Impact Factor of 7.2 (6.3 in 2024) and 1,036 citations. It ranks 16th in the Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Medical Imaging category. Published since 2019, the journal focuses on screening, differential diagnosis and treatment planning across imaging subspecialties, organ systems and modalities and presents an interdisciplinary perspective on cancer imaging.
RadioGraphics, RSNA’s premier educational journal, edited by Christine Cooky Menias, MD, also showed gains in 2025 with a Journal Impact Factor of 6.2 (5.5 in 2024) and 15,527 citations. The popular journal has more than doubled its Journal Impact Factor since 2015.
Launched in 1981, RadioGraphics is one of the leading education journals in diagnostic radiology. Each bimonthly issue features practice-focused articles spanning the full spectrum of radiologic subspecialties. With an emphasis on education presented at RSNA’s annual meeting, RadioGraphics’ primary mission is to publish the best in peer-reviewed educational material for radiologists, trainees, physicists and other radiology professionals.
Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging, edited by Harold I. Litt, MD, PhD, continues to grow with a Journal Impact Factor of 4.5 (4.2 in 2024) and 1,571 citations. The journal, introduced in 2019, emphasizes new research and technical developments in imaging that drive cardiothoracic medicine and serves as an invaluable resource for healthcare professionals, providing them with the latest advances, clinical guidelines and evidence-based insights necessary for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning.
Radiology Advances, edited by Susanna I. Lee, MD, PhD, had a Journal Impact Factor of 1.8 and 81 citations. This is the first Journal Impact Factor designation for RSNA’s open-access journal, which debuted in 2024. Radiology Advances includes a broad spectrum of high-quality international radiology research, freely available to readers without a subscription. Reflecting the wide breadth of imaging sciences and innovations in technology and clinical practice, the journal primarily publishes original multidisciplinary research articles with a focus on emerging topics, cross-cutting and innovative research.
RSNA is the leading voice in radiology research and education. In May 2026, RSNA entered into a 10-year agreement with Wolters Kluwer to publish Radiology, RadioGraphics, Radiology: Artificial Intelligence, Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging and Radiology: Imaging Cancer. The collaboration will expand global access and enhance the visibility and impact of these five journals by leveraging Wolters Kluwer’s digital platforms and integration into clinical workflows.
Radiology Advances, RSNA’s first exclusively open-access journal, will continue to be published in partnership with Oxford University Press.
