France and UAE Showcase Radiology Innovations at RSNA 2025
Country Presents sessions highlight advances in personalized cancer screening, AI integration and value-based imaging
Each year at the annual meeting, RSNA highlights select countries that have made significant contributions to the field of radiology and continue to influence its future direction.
This year, the Country Presents sessions will spotlight France and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Delegates from each nation or from their respective radiology societies will participate in the event, presenting research and discussing their strategies for addressing upcoming health care challenges.
France’s Commitment to Radiology Innovation
France’s delegation at RSNA 2025 is led by Marie-France Bellin, MD, president of the Société Française de Radiologie (SFR). Dr. Bellin will introduce the session with an overview of systemic challenges facing French health care and the role radiology plays in addressing them, particularly in cancer care.
“Through this session, we aim to showcase the evolving landscape of radiology in France, highlighting innovations that improve patient outcomes and support holistic oncology care,” Dr. Bellin said.
A central theme is the integration of personalized screening strategies for women, focusing on early detection of breast and cervical cancers.
Isabelle Thomassin-Naggara, MD, explained that France is shifting toward risk-adapted follow-up, coordinating with general practitioners and offering dedicated consultations at age 50 to discuss screening and prevention options.
According to Dr. Thomassin-Naggara, the aim is to increase coverage and reduce cervical cancer incidence by 30% over the next decade.
The session will also explore radiomics, with Laure Fournier, MD, PhD, detailing how French radiologists are leveraging data science to stratify cancer risk. “Radiomics allows us to extract more information from imaging studies, enabling better prediction of lesion malignancy and more tailored treatment plans,” Dr. Fournier said.
Post-treatment surveillance, particularly myocarditis in patients receiving immunotherapy, will be highlighted by Alexis Jacquier, MD. “Cardiac MRI provides quantitative assessments, such as T1 and T2 mapping, which are essential for following patients undergoing these innovative therapies,” Dr. Jacquier noted.
Advancements in interventional radiology, including robot-assisted procedures for abdominal cancers, will also be presented. Laurent Milot, MD, PhD, said these techniques promise to democratize complex interventions and integrate AI-driven planning, potentially improving patient outcomes.
Alain Luciani, MD, PhD, will conclude the session by framing the SFR’s strategic vision for radiology, emphasizing international collaboration, innovation and quality standards.
UAE: Leveraging AI and Advanced Imaging
“Radiology in the UAE is advancing rapidly, keeping pace with our economic growth and commitment to world-class health care,” said Usama Al Bastaki, MD, chair of medical imaging at Dubai Health.
The UAE delegation will demonstrate how economic resources, advanced technology and innovation have created a modern radiology landscape that integrates AI with specialized expertise.
The session opens with Abdulla Alremeithi, MD, providing an overview of life in the UAE and the country’s unique health care environment. “The UAE has grown into a dynamic, cosmopolitan society, and our health care system reflects this diversity,” Dr. Al Bastaki said. “Our radiology services must respond to a wide range of patient needs while maintaining international standards.”
Taleb Al Mansoori, MD, will discuss radiology practice across the UAE, focusing on opportunities and challenges in both public and private sectors. “The public sector offers robust support for research and education, while the private sector incentivizes productivity,” Dr. Al Bastaki explained. “Balancing these dynamics ensures that radiologists can grow professionally while delivering high-quality care.
AI is a central focus for the UAE, particularly in breast and tuberculosis (TB) screening programs. Dr. Bastaki will present on the implementation of AI in breast screening in Dubai. “AI-driven tools enhance early detection by improving diagnostic accuracy and helping radiologists focus on higher-risk cases,” he said. “These systems support more personalized patient care and allow us to scale screening to meet population demands efficiently.”
In the context of TB screening, Rashid Al Sharhan, MBBS, will highlight high-volume chest X-ray programs, particularly for visa-related medical examinations. “With thousands of X-rays processed daily, AI automates the identification of normal cases, reducing radiologist workload by up to 80%,” Dr. Al Bastaki noted. “This allows radiologists to concentrate on complex findings, improving both speed and accuracy in high-throughput settings.”
The session will also feature neuroradiology cases curated by Manzoor Ahmed, MD, which reflect the UAE’s demographic diversity and clinical complexity. “This diversity presents a spectrum of neurological conditions, from common pathologies to rare disorders, providing rich learning opportunities for international colleagues,” Dr. Al Bastaki explained.
Advanced imaging technologies, including 3T MRI and AI-assisted lesion segmentation, demonstrate how innovation is integrated into everyday clinical practice in the UAE.
Rashid Al Sharhan, MBBS will moderate the session, guiding discussions that highlight the country’s strategic approach to integrating technology, workforce development and value-based care. The UAE’s focus on collaboration between academic institutions, health care providers and AI developers ensures that innovations are tailored to both local and global standards.
