Spotlight Course Brings RSNA Experience to Istanbul
Strategically located course leverages NNSA grant funding to deliver quality education globally

World-class RSNA education meets a captivating destination in a June RSNA Spotlight Course on emergency and abdominopelvic imaging in Istanbul.
Featuring a tailored range of trauma imaging, body imaging and emergency radiology topics, Top Presenters from RSNA: Expert Insights on Emergency and Abdominopelvic Imaging will deliver live multi-specialty education to the region.
“Istanbul is a metropolis that’s steeped in rich history, spanning both the Asian and European continents and accessible to attendees across multiple nations,” said course director Musturay Karçaaltincaba, MD, a professor of radiology, chief of CT and lead of liver imaging at Hacettepe University Hospitals in Ankara, Türkiye. “It is an amazing location, and I am especially excited to be onsite to share new advances and interesting cases in liver imaging, and to explore the hot topics in multiparametric MR imaging, artificial intelligence and new classifications.”
The course is scheduled for June 28–29 at the Sheraton Istanbul City Center, where an international faculty will present a program that’s customized to serve radiologists in facilities of all sizes.
Course director Christina A. LeBedis, MD, MS, vice chair of research and an associate professor of radiology at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine, commented on the extensive expertise among her fellow course faculty.
“Our professional connections strengthen our field through improved patient care and personal growth,” Dr. LeBedis added. “In addition to the incredible learning experience this course provides, I look forward to the exchange of ideas among radiologists from numerous countries and the opportunity to network.”
Drs. LeBedis and Karçaaltincaba share information about what the course has to offer.
“Topics are relevant not only to radiologists practicing in larger urban hospitals, but also to those in smaller facilities in more remote areas,” explained Jorge Soto, MD, a professor of radiology at Boston University School of Medicine and chair of the Department of Radiology at Boston Medical Center.
Dr. Soto, RSNA Board liaison for international affairs, will serve on the multidisciplinary course faculty. “The faculty will provide an overview of the proper techniques for evaluating acute traumatic and non-traumatic conditions, and they’ll offer useful practical tips to avoid errors in interpreting these studies,” he said.
Dr. LeBedis offers an example of the high-quality educational content that will be presented during the Spotlight Course.
Expanding Radiology Access Globally
The course is offered as part of RSNA’s Global Health Initiative: Access to Radiology program, funded in part by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The NNSA grant supports peaceful uses of nuclear energy and aims to improve patient care in low- to middle-resourced countries.
Spanning five years, the NNSA-funded initiative targets the specific needs of radiology departments across the globe, offering assistance with equipment and technology upgrades as well as tailored education to help build radiology teams’ capacity to deliver cutting-edge imaging services to their communities.
In-person educational events like Top Presenters from RSNA: Expert Insights on Emergency and Abdominopelvic Imaging give attendees the experience of RSNA-quality learning and networking in strategically selected locations.
“Türkiye, and particularly Istanbul, is located in a strategic area that meets the global outreach missions of RSNA,” Dr. Soto said. “Many of the members of our society from Southeast Europe, Middle East and Northern Africa cannot attend our annual meeting in Chicago. With this Spotlight course, we are committed to delivering high-quality educational offerings in areas of the world where the expertise of our member faculty is needed most.”
“This Spotlight Course has a concise program and up-to-date topics,” Dr. Karçaaltincaba added. “Please come and enjoy Turkish hospitality and delicious food.”
