RSNA Supports Resolution on Strengthening Medical Imaging Capacity
Resolution was ratified during World Health Organization Assembly in Geneva
The World Health Assembly, the decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO) unanimously adopted a Resolution on Strengthening Medical Imaging Capacity. The 78th World Health Assembly was held in Geneva, Switzerland, on May who-19–27, 2025. The theme of this year’s Health Assembly was One World for Health.
The statement was developed and brought forth by the International Society of Radiology (ISR) and the World Federation of Nuclear Medicine and Biology (WFNMB) to scale up imaging in low-resourced parts of the world.
RSNA participated in this effort via our membership in the ISR. RSNA Board member, Jorge A. Soto, MD, is RSNA’s representative on the ISR Executive Committee.
Cancer and other non-communicable diseases are increasing and disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income countries, yet access to medical imaging as a crucial component of modern, high-quality health care remains severely limited in these countries.
The Resolution on Strengthening Medical Imaging Capacity seeks to reduce these inequalities by reinforcing WHO Member States’ commitment to improve access to modern imaging technologies, considering the associated infrastructure, health workforce and training.
