The Board of Directors of RSNA announced that Linda Moy, MD, will become editor of the journal Radiology in January 2023. Dr. Moy is the first woman to be named editor of the premier journal in the medical imaging field.

Recognized as a national and international leader in breast imaging, MRI and artificial intelligence (AI), Dr. Moy is a professor of radiology at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine with additional appointments at the NYU Center for Advanced Imaging Innovation and Research and the NYU Vilcek Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences. She is director of breast MRI (clinical and research) throughout the NYU Health Network.

“I am extremely honored to be the next editor of Radiology, the preeminent journal in medical imaging,” Dr. Moy said. “My goals are to ensure that Radiology remains the most-trusted, authoritative, global health journal that publishes impactful research to improve human health.”

Dr. Moy has developed robust breast imaging research programs across multiple imaging modalities. Notably, she leads a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded multidisciplinary team that identifies imaging biomarkers associated with tumor biology on 3T and 7T magnets. She has 20 years of experience in using cutting-edge functional MRI applications in breast MRI, oncological MRI and, more recently, PET/MRI. In her work, Dr. Moy develops techniques to enable highly accelerated, robust, safe and cost‐effective MRI. Dr. Moy co-leads an international AI team that spans five NYU Langone Health institutions. Her NIH-funded team has developed AI algorithms for all types of breast imaging modalities. They also apply deep learning MR techniques to accelerate the post-processing and reconstruction of Cartesian and non-Cartesian MRIs.

“Dr. Moy has achieved widespread recognition in academic radiology as an accomplished investigator, author and editor. Given her extensive editorial experience, including serving as senior deputy editor of Radiology for the past 3 years, she is the ideal individual to lead RSNA’s flagship journal into the future,” said Jeffrey S. Klein, MD, RSNA Board Liaison for Publications and Communications.

A graduate of Cornell University in New York, in 1994 Dr. Moy earned her medical degree from State University of New York, Health Science Center at Brooklyn. She completed her radiology residency at Albert Einstein/Montefiore Medical Center in 1999 and a fellowship in breast imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in 2000 and served as an attending radiologist at MGH. Since 2002, she has been a faculty member and attending radiologist at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. In 2020, she joined the faculty of NYU Vilcek Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences.

Dr. Moy became Radiology’s deputy editor for breast imaging in 2017 and was appointed senior deputy editor of Radiology in 2019. She has also served on the editorial board of the Journal of Magnetic Resonance in Imaging. She has been a consultant editor for the American Journal of Roentgenology and consultant to the editor of the Journal of Breast Imaging. She was editor of Breast Oncology: Techniques, Indications, and Interpretations, published by Springer.

In addition to her work for Radiology, Dr. Moy has been a manuscript reviewer for 14 other journals. She has also served as a reviewer for RSNA Case Collection – a database of peer-reviewed cases and images – and as an abstract reviewer for multiple societies and organizations, including RSNA.

Dr. Moy has given more than 200 invited seminars or lectures. She has co-authored 140 original reports, 66 reviews, book chapters and monographs, and over 350 scientific abstracts. She has served on multiple NIH, Department of Defense and Breast Cancer Research Program study sections.

Among Dr. Moy’s many awards and honors are the RSNA Honored Educator Award (2020 and 2021), the RSNA Roentgen Fellow Research Award, AAWR Research and Education Foundation Member-In-Training Award for RSNA, and the RSNA/ARRS/AUR Introduction to Research Resident Award. She was a member of the Society of Chairs of Academic Radiology Departments – LEAD program (2021) and received the inaugural NYU Faculty Mentor of the Year Award in 2021. She is a fellow of the American College of Radiology (ACR), the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) and the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM).

A longtime member of RSNA, Dr. Moy has been a member of the Scientific Program Committee for Breast Imaging, serving as its chair from 2016 to 2018. She has been a member of the Nominating Committee for the Alexander R. Margulis Award for Scientific Excellence and the COVID-19 AI Task Force Committee. She is a course director for the RSNA AI Certificate Program and a member of the planning group for the RSNA AI Breast Imaging Challenge.

Dr. Moy has served in many capacities with a number of other professional societies, including the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine, ISMRM, for which she has chaired the Publications and Nominating committees and is a member of the Board of Trustees. At the ACR, she was chair of the Joint Committee on Breast Imaging for the Appropriateness Criteria and Practice Parameters and a member of the ACR Breast Commission. At the SBI, she has served in multiple capacities and is the Secretary/Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors.

Published regularly since 1923 by RSNA, Radiology has long been recognized as the authoritative reference for the most current, clinically relevant and highest quality research in the field of radiology. Each month, the journal publishes approximately 300 pages of peer-reviewed original research, authoritative reviews, well-balanced commentary on significant articles, and expert opinion on new techniques and technologies. Radiology has an impact factor of 11.105 making it one of the top cited journals in the field.

As Radiology editor, Dr. Moy hopes to leverage multiple media platforms to amplify the journal’s message and extend its global reach to maintain its distinction in an evolving publications landscape.

“We will publish highly relevant medical research to give radiologists the knowledge and evidence they need to enhance their practice,” she said. “Radiology will continue to be the go-to journal for readers, authors and thought leaders in our medical imaging community.”

Dr. Moy will succeed David A. Bluemke, MD, PhD, as Radiology editor. Dr. Bluemke has served the journal since 2018 and will retire as editor at the end of 2022. In addition to enhancing Radiology’s online and social media presence, during his tenure Dr. Bluemke introduced several new article features and types, including targeted editorials to better explain complex research, visual abstracts to illuminate the key findings of articles, and Images in Radiology to convey the excitement and discovery inherent in medical imaging.
