She completed her abdominal radiology fellowship and obtained her doctorate from the Instituto de Radiologia da Universidade de São Paulo (INRAD-HCFMUSP).

In addition to her responsibilities with Chamié Imagem da Mulher, Dr. Chamié is an abdominal radiologist at Fleury Medicina e Saúde in São Paulo and is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Center for Evidence-Based Imaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, affiliated with Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Chamié’s main research interests include endometriosis, infertility, adenomyosis, pelvic floor and female pelvic imaging.

In 2019, she was the recipient of an RSNA Honored Educator Award.

What or who sparked your interest in radiology?

My passion for radiology began early in medical school, when I worked as a teaching assistant in the anatomy department. I had the privilege of collaborating closely with an anatomy professor, Dr. Arthur de Paula Lobo, who is also a radiologist. He recognized my enthusiasm and invited me to visit his family’s radiology clinic—one of the most respected in the city. I soon started interning there, especially during school breaks, and it was during those formative experiences that I truly fell in love with radiology.

For my final thesis project, I chose to explore magnetic resonance cholangiography—a relatively new technique at the time— which combined my growing interest in imaging and anatomy and already reflected my early inclination toward abdominal radiology, under his mentorship.

What has been your best professional accomplishment?

My greatest professional accomplishment has been becoming a recognized reference in endometriosis imaging, both nationally and internationally. Being acknowledged by peers as an expert and earning the trust of specialists and patients alike has been an incredibly rewarding experience.

As part of this journey, I founded my own women’s imaging clinic, which has been a leading center for endometriosis diagnosis in Brazil for the past 15 years. A hallmark of my work is the inclusion of illustrative diagrams in radiology reports, creating a visual fingerprint of each patient’s imaging findings to guide treatment, and providing clinical and surgical counseling.

To date, we have evaluated more than 20,000 patients with suspected endometriosis and other pelvic conditions, using a patient-centered and humanized approach to care. This experience helped establish my presence in the field and opened doors to collaborations with national and international societies on major consensus statements and high-impact publications. I have now delivered over 150 lectures on the topic at national and international conferences, including eight at the RSNA annual meeting.

Additionally, it has been a true honor to serve on the RSNA Education Exhibits Awards Committee and the RadioGraphics Obstetrics and Gynecology Panel, where I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside some of the most accomplished radiologists in the field.

Receiving the RSNA Honored Educator Award in 2019 was an especially meaningful and fulfilling recognition of this path, along with the deep gratitude of seeing my work published in RadioGraphics.

What has been the biggest challenge you have faced in your career?

The greatest challenge of my medical career has been expanding my work to the international stage—a journey that began with a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Center for Evidence-Based Imaging (CEBI) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 2023.

Revalidating my medical degree in the United States after 28 years since graduation was undoubtedly a profound test of resilience and patience, but also one of the most meaningful personal victories of my life.

I am deeply grateful to my mentor, Dr. Ramin Khorasani, professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School and director of the CEBI at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, for his unwavering support and encouragement throughout this journey

What RSNA resources do you enjoy using?

I have utilized several RSNA resources since my medical residency, including the journals—especially RadioGraphics. I have also taken advantage of listening to RSNA podcasts, revisiting scientific exhibits and exploring the educational content available on RSNA EdCentral, as well as during the RSNA annual meeting.

When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your free time?

I enjoy spending my free time between activities with family and friends, traveling and various leisure and sports pursuits. I love playing tennis and horseback riding, and I enjoy trying out new recipes—especially pies and desserts. I study art history and absolutely love visiting museums around the world!
