Jin Mo Goo, MD, PhD
A globally recognized leader in thoracic imaging, Jin Mo Goo, MD, PhD, is professor and chair, Department of Radiology, Seoul National University College of Medicine.
“Dr. Goo’s visionary leadership in thoracic imaging, groundbreaking research in AI and lasting contributions to lung cancer screening and staging have advanced radiology worldwide,” said RSNA President, Jeffrey S. Klein, MD. “His scholarship, service and dedication to international collaboration exemplify the highest ideals of our profession.”
Dr. Goo has been instrumental in shaping the clinical standards of chest imaging. He has co-authored influential guidelines and recommendations, including the management of incidental pulmonary nodules, the role of imaging during the COVID-19 pandemic, chest CT diagnosis and clinical management of drug-related pneumonitis and The Fleischner Society glossary of terms for thoracic imaging.
Dr. Goo’s primary research focuses on computer-aided diagnosis and AI systems, quantitative imaging analysis, and the evaluation of lung nodules. He has authored or co-authored more than 400 papers, with more than 19,000 citations.
In addition, he participated as a member of the Staging and Prognostic Factors Group of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), where he contributed to the development of the 9th and 10th editions of lung cancer staging. For his work, he received the IASLC Clifton F. Mountain Lectureship Award for Staging.
He played a pivotal role in implementing the Korean National Lung Cancer Screening Program, a contribution for which he was awarded the Service Merit Medal from the President of the Republic of Korea and a Ministerial Citation from the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
Dr. Goo is a current member of the RSNA Annual Meeting Program Preparation Committee and has served on several other committees, including the Chest Radiology Subcommittee of the Scientific Program Committee, the Regional Committee of Asia/Oceania and Margulis Award for Scientific Excellence Nominating Committee. He is an associate editor of Radiology and has received the Radiology Editor’s Recognition Award for reviewing with Special Distinction.
He is the president of the Asian Society of Thoracic Radiology and is a past president of both the Fleischner Society and the Korean Society of Thoracic Radiology. He is also an editorial board member for Investigative Radiology, Korean Journal of Radiology, and Cancer Research and Treatment. He is also a former assistant editor for the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR) and former associate editor for the Journal of Thoracic Imaging. He received the AJR Reviewer Lifetime Achievement Award for his work with the publication.
