RSNA 2026 Dedication

Richard G. Lester, MD, was a visionary radiologist, educator and institutional leader whose remarkable career reflected an enduring commitment to medicine, service and opportunity. A former RSNA president and Gold Medalist, Dr. Lester shaped the field through decades of academic leadership, professional engagement and steadfast advocacy for excellence in radiology.

After earning his medical degree from Columbia University and completing his radiology training at Stanford University Hospital, Dr. Lester served as a U.S. Air Force radiologist in Japan, receiving the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Achievement. He later held distinguished faculty and chair positions at leading institutions across the country and served as dean of Eastern Virginia Medical School and president of Meharry Medical College. His efforts to expand educational access and opportunity earned national recognition.

Dr. Lester’s influence within RSNA was equally profound. In addition to serving as president of the Board of Directors, he contributed to numerous committees, councils, publications and philanthropic initiatives, strengthening the Society’s scientific, educational and international missions.

We dedicate this program in honor of Dr. Lester’s transformative leadership, generous service and unwavering belief in education, equity and excellence. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of radiologists, educators and leaders.
