What or who sparked your interest in radiology?

I became interested in radiology after a friend of mine in medical school suggested I do a breast radiology medical student rotation with his mom who was a breast radiologist. I instantly fell in love with the specialty as it had all the elements I was looking for—an emphasis on women's health and the advocacy aspect that came with that—both from a health policy and patient education standpoint, including patient interaction, procedural exposure and interpretation at the workstation.

What has been your best professional accomplishment?

I think my best professional accomplishment was spearheading the establishment of a comprehensive breast program in a part of the United States that badly needed access. The last almost seven years has most certainly been a grind in every sense, but it was worth it to see the quality and outcomes of our breast cancer patients improve significantly. It means even more as I was able to do this in the area in which I was raised, so it's truly been a calling.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced in your career?

The biggest challenge I have faced is spearheading the establishment of a comprehensive breast program! Haha!

In the current, complex health care environment and delivery system, it has been quite challenging to figure out the pieces of how I was going to get from Point A to Point B, achieve buy in from various factions who would be involved in multidisciplinary breast cancer care, and convince the C-suite why certain parts and resources needed to become a reality for these patients. Although we have made incredible progress, we continue to work hard to improve every possible aspect of the patient experience.

What RSNA resources do you enjoy using?

I attend the RSNA Annual Meeting every year! I find that the lectures that focus on professional development are very useful and applicable to any practice type.

When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your free time?

When I am not working, I like to attend Kansas City sporting events (especially The Kansas City Chiefs!), fine arts events and travel. I also enjoy periodic spa days where I can relax and unwind.
