Eric Topol, MD, is a practicing cardiologist with Scripps Clinic and the founder and director of the Scripps Research Translational Institute. He is a pioneer in cardiovascular medicine and has built an international reputation for his groundbreaking research and expertise. Dr. Topol has authored three bestselling books on the future of medicine: The Creative Destruction of Medicine, The Patient Will See You Now, and Deep Medicine: How Artificial Intelligence Can Make Healthcare Human Again. He has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine and is one of the top 10 most cited researchers in medicine.

“The progress from unimodal supervised learning of medical images to multimodal, self- or unsupervised learning foundation models has enabled marked changes in the practice of medicine,” Dr. Topol said.

These changes include promoting accurate diagnoses, giving clinicians more time for patient care, and partitioning patient risk for various medical conditions. However, he cautions that realizing all of this potential comes with its own challenges.

During his plenary session, Dr. Topol will discuss these challenges and how to forge a path forward to the future of health care.
