The National Imaging Informatics Course (NIIC) will return for the fall session, Sept. 18-22, 2023. The online course is hosted through a partnership between RSNA and the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM).

NIIC is a unique, weeklong course that offers imaging informatics education to trainees, practicing radiologists and allied professionals around the world. The course was designed for fourth-year medical residents but is suitable for a variety of medical professionals and industry partners at varying career levels looking to increase their informatics skill sets. In addition, NIIC includes a pathology track.

Students and seasoned health care professionals alike can benefit from the small group discussions, live online lectures and convenient on-demand resources. Additionally, pre- and post-course work and assignments will be posted throughout the term.

“This September, we'll run the 13th session of the NIIC course,” said Tessa S. Cook, MD, PhD, who originally developed the course with Nabile M. Safdar, MD, PhD, Katherine Andriole, PhD, Michael Recht, MD, and J. Raym Geis, MD. “What started as a small cohort of U.S.-based radiology residents learning the fundamentals of imaging informatics has grown to an international educational experience for radiologists, pathologists, data scientists and researchers at all levels.”

The NIIC coursework covers fundamentals like patient-centric radiology and clinical workflow, as well as topics such as data science, mission learning and 3D printing.

“Through flipped classroom sessions, journal club, the hands-on AI lab and small group discussions, participants share their experience of imaging informatics and AI, and they brainstorm ways to use technology to improve the lives of our patients,” Dr. Cook said.

The NIIC faculty are experts in imaging and informatics. Graduates of the NIIC course earn their course graduate badge and are equipped to promote imaging and informatics.

The spring term of the NIIC course will be held March 4–8, 2024.
