RSNA 2019 Trending Topics

Gastrointestinal Radiology

Dual-energy CT (DECT) – in terms of technique and diagnosis – is a trending topic for this subspecialty along with focal liver hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and non-HCC.

The Liver Sonography 2019 session provides an update on liver elastography, diffuse liver disease and CEUS for liver lesion intervention. Liver elastography is also the topic for one of two hands-on sessions; the other is Tumor Ablation Beyond the Liver: Practical Techniques for Success.

Attendees looking for an interactive experience can attend the Diagnosis Live™ session, Challenging Abdominal Imaging Cases focusing on the pancreas, colon, liver and rectum.

There are three Controversy Sessions in this subspecialty: MR Elastography vs. US Elastography of the Liver reviews and compares the advantages and limitations of these diagnostic options, Incidental Pancreatic Cyst Management focuses on recommendations for pancreatic cysts, and Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Should We Use CT, MR or US?, covers the advantages and disadvantages of these surveillance tools for HCC.

Other sessions of note include Understanding Anorectal and Cloacal Malformations with 3D Printed Models and Gastrointestinal Series: Advances in Abdominal Imaging, offering updates on the use of AI with low-dose CT and DECT.

Another session to look for is, Abbreviated/Faster MRI Abdominal Pelvic Protocols.

Several education exhibits focus on AI and ML as well as DECT for colorectal cancer, rectal carcinomas and radiomics for prognosis.
