The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) leads the charge in advancing artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool to drive excellence in patient care and health care delivery. RSNAI Monthly is a new collection of media briefs to help news outlets stay abreast of RSNA's latest AI initiatives.

RSNA Aneurysm AI Challenge Draws 620+ Innovators from Across the World

Competition is underway for the RSNA Intracranial Aneurysm Detection AI Challenge, which invites developers to create open-source machine learning models to detect and precisely locate intracranial aneurysms across various types of medical images, including CT angiography, MR angiography and T1 post-contrast and T2-weighted MRI. The challenge includes real clinical variation, with data from different institutions, scanners and imaging protocols that will test the models' performance.

More than 620 submissions are currently on the challenge leaderboard. The competition runs through Oct. 14, 2025. Winners will be announced in November, and winning teams will be recognized in the AI Theater during RSNA's 111th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting (RSNA 2025), held Nov. 30 – Dec. 4 at McCormick Place in Chicago.

October RSNA Spotlight Course Will Teach Practical AI Innovation in Barcelona

"Radiology Reimagined: Advancing Clinical Practice Through AI Innovation" will bring together global leaders in radiology and AI for a new RSNA Spotlight Course in Barcelona, Oct. 16-17, 2025. This two-day experience will explore the real-world application of AI tools across diverse practice settings. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the AI evaluation and deployment lifecycle and examine the role of generative AI. Didactic sessions, case-based learning and interactive discussions will prepare attendees to lead evidence-based AI implementation and champion innovations that improve both patient outcomes and professional practice.

AI Showcase, Theater Will Demonstrate Latest Technology at RSNA 2025

More than 100 exhibitors are slated to feature innovative AI software and solutions during the RSNA 2025 AI Showcase, where attendees can interact with products, watch hands-on demonstrations and explore practical clinical applications during AI Theater presentations. The Showcase will also house RSNA-led imaging and research in the most promising applications to streamline radiology workflows and improve patient care.

RSNA Journals Highlight Original Research in Radiology AI In its September issue, RSNA's flagship journal Radiology published expert reviews exploring AI tools for emphysema screening and the financial, operational and clinical advantages of generalist radiology AI.

RSNA's journal Radiology: Artificial Intelligence published six original research articles and four expert commentary articles in September, covering topics across the spectrum of AI-assisted medical imaging and workflow enhancement, while Radiology: Imaging Cancer featured articles on using machine learning to detect prostate cancer and predict the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma.

R&E Foundation Funds AI Research in Radiology

The RSNA Research and Education (R&E) Foundation Board of Trustees has approved more than $4.7 million in 2025-2026 grants to support emerging, high-impact, and underfunded fields in medical imaging. Among the 2025 research grant recipients is Hyun Soo Ko, M.D., an associate professor at the University of Melbourne Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Dr. Ko's team will explore the use of advanced AI and genetic analysis of blood samples to help predict and manage muscle wasting in patients with colorectal cancer. Hers is the first RSNA R&E Foundation grant awarded to a researcher in Australia.

600 Professionals Earn RSNA Imaging AI Certificate

More than 600 medical imaging professionals have completed RSNA's Imaging AI Certificate Program, which offers on-demand training that blends a case-based curriculum with practical applications in four course tracks. Participants can earn a Foundational Certificate, Advanced Certificate, Emergency Certificate or Chest Certificate to improve knowledge and skills in medical imaging AI. The program is open to radiology professionals at any career stage, and RSNA offers both individual enrollment and resident group enrollment.

National Imaging Informatics Course Teaches Practical Skills

The Fall 2025 offering of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine's National Imaging Informatics Course (NIIC) took place Sept. 22-26, 2025, offering a series of live, online lectures and small group discussions taught by imaging informatics experts from all over the world. Sponsored by RSNA and the Digital Pathology Association, NIIC's specialized curriculum is designed to teach skills across the imaging informatics spectrum that are essential to current health practice.

Oct. 15 MIDRC Seminar Open to Medical Community

The Medical Imaging Data Resource Center (MIDRC), funded by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and hosted at the University of Chicago, is co-led by RSNA, the American College of Radiology, and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine. Held on the third Tuesday of the month, the Seminar Series is an opportunity for members of the medical community at large to hear directly from the MIDRC team. The next session, planned for Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. CT, will feature research presentations from MIDRC investigators on new and noteworthy advances, and includes a live Q & A session for all attendees. Free registration is required.
