2026 R&E Foundation Awards Advance Innovation in Radiology
The R&E Foundation is pleased to announce the 2026 class of grant recipients. Thanks to our donors, the Foundation has awarded more than $4.5 million to support 79 new grant recipients across North America and Argentina. These awards support early-career investigators and educators addressing critical challenges in medical imaging and radiation oncology. By providing protected research time and early validation of innovative ideas, the Foundation helps launch research and accelerate discoveries that improve patient care.
The Foundation has played a significant role in the advancement of radiological science through its grant program since 1984. With the support from the Foundation’s grants, promising investigators are empowered to pursue innovative ideas and new knowledge that ultimately lead to advancements in medical imaging.
“The R&E Foundation continues to build on our mission of furthering the field of radiology through funding the researchers that advance science and patient care. We are thrilled to announce our 2026 grant recipients, including a first grant recipient from Argentina, highlighting the global impact of funding provided by the R&E Foundation,” said Pamela K. Woodard, MD, Chair, R&E Foundation Board of Trustees. “There is much excitement to see what discoveries will be made and how their research will evolve the field. This is only made possible due to the generosity of our donors and the time and efforts of our volunteers.”
Among this year’s recipients is Yashbir Singh, PhD, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, whose work reflects the innovative research supported by the Foundation.
Dr. Singh was awarded a Research Scholar Grant for his project, “Multiparametric MRI Topological Biomarkers Predict Cholangiocarcinoma in PSC: A Persistent Homology-Deep Learning Framework.” By integrating multiple forms of imaging data with advanced analytical techniques, his work aims to improve early detection, refine risk stratification, and guide more personalized treatment strategies for patients with perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA).
“My scientific passion lies at the intersection of advanced medical imaging and artificial intelligence, specifically focused on transforming early detection and treatment of perihilar cholangiocarcinoma pCCA, a devastating cancer with historically poor outcomes,” he said.
His research develops computational approaches that combine topological data analysis, deep learning, and multiparametric MRI to identify subtle pre-malignant changes not visible on conventional imaging.
This year’s class of grantees continues the Foundation’s record of supporting investigators at critical stages in their careers. Donor support remains a priority in advancing high-impact research, fostering career development and ensuring that promising ideas have the opportunity to shape the future of radiology.
