Honoring a Lifetime of Service: The Ullrichs’ Transformational Gift to Radiology

Christopher G. Ullrich, MD

The R&E Foundation is honored to recognize a historic $3 million estate gift from the late Christopher G. Ullrich, MD, and Betsy C. Ullrich—the largest single donation in our more than 40-year history.  This transformational gift will fund a new era of radiology research. In recognition of their generosity, the Board of Trustees is proud to dedicate the [Grant Type] in honor of the Ullrichs for the next [XX] years.

A longtime RSNA member, Dr. Ullrich dedicated his career to Charlotte Radiology. Following his medical degree and residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University, he completed a fellowship in neuroradiology at Johns Hopkins. Since his passing in 2021, he is remembered for his professional excellence and enduring commitment to the field.  Read his full obituary

The Ullrich’s dedication to the Foundation was evident through their continual support as Presidents Circle donors and Gold Visionary donors, in addition to their legacy gift. Dr. Ullrich was deeply involved with RSNA throughout his lifetime, serving as Assembly Faculty at the RSNA annual meeting and as a member of the Technical Exhibits Committee, and publishing in both Radiology and RadioGraphics

Dr. Ullrich received the Silver Medal Award from the North Carolina chapter of the American College of Radiologists in 2016. A video produced at that time highlights his career and accomplishments. View the video

“We are among the best educated people in our society. We have an obligation to use that education to inform and better our society over time,” Dr. Ullrich shares in the video, “And my career has been built around that notion.”

“We are incredibly grateful to Christopher Ullrich, MD and his wife Betsy for including the Foundation in their legacy planning, paving the way for a bright future for new generations of grant recipients. In naming a grant for the Ullrichs, we will remember Dr. Ullrich’s contributions to the field of radiology and honor both of them for their philanthropy and generosity to improving the lives of patients, students and scientists,” said Pamela K. Woodard, MD, Chair, R&E Foundation Board of Trustees.

The first [NAME OF GRANT] will be funded in 2026.
