2025 R&E Foundation Grant Recipients Announced
We are thrilled to announce the latest recipients of the R&E Foundations grants, individuals who represent the next wave of innovators in radiology. The Foundation has a long and proud history of supporting groundbreaking research and nurturing the careers and promising professionals in the field. In fact, many of today’s most respected leaders often credit our grant opportunities with launching their careers. This is especially vital in these uncertain times when sustained medical funding is more critical than ever to ensure continuous advancements in the field.
This year, over $4.7 million in funding was awarded to 81 individuals across 54 North American institutions, plus one international grant in Australia!
Hyun Soo Ko, MD at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Center/ University of Melbourne, was awarded a Research Seed Grant to study “Fully Automated CT Body Composition and Blood Gene Expressed Transcriptional Response Factors as Predictive Biomarkers for Cancer Cachexia in Patients with Colorectal Cancer and Peritoneal Metastases”. Dr. Ko’s project takes on the devastating issue of cancer cachexia, a severe problem for many. It's a condition that causes significant weight and muscle loss, drastically affecting their quality of life and even shortening their lifespan. Dr. Ko is leading an international effort, leveraging cutting-edge AI and genetic analysis by studying patient samples to find early warning signs and develop better tools for both diagnosing and tracking the condition. By bringing together top experts from Australia and the U.S., this collaborative research aims to improve cancer cachexia treatment, ultimately benefiting patients worldwide.
