RSNA Imaging Sustainability Challenge

The RSNA Imaging Sustainability Challenge invites you to showcase real-world efforts that make imaging care more sustainable.

We encourage radiology departments, divisions or multidisciplinary teams to submit implemented or in progress initiatives that advance environmental sustainability in imaging. Some examples of environmental impact projects include:

  • Reducing waste through inventory management, low-dose protocols and reusable alternatives
  • Improving efficiency by improving patient scheduling and scanner idle time
  • Conserving resources by powering down imaging equipment when not in use
  • Reducing energy consumption through workflow improvements and reduction in repeat imaging

About the Challenge

The goal of the challenge is to highlight actionable real-world sustainability approaches that can inform, inspire and be adapted by radiology teams in diverse practice settings.

The inaugural challenge is centered on the theme Aligning Care, Cost and Sustainability. The Challenge seeks projects that demonstrate how environmental sustainability can support high-quality patient care while addressing operational and resource stewardship priorities.

Submissions may include pilot programs, workflow improvement projects or department-wide initiatives, whether in ideation, newly implemented or established, with measurable outcomes or anticipated impact.

Submission Information

Project submissions are welcome from radiology departments, divisions and multidisciplinary teams at all stages of their sustainability journey.

Entries must summarize the project and its measurable environmental impact. For example:

  • How the project aligns care, cost and sustainability
  • How the initiative could be adapted or scaled by others in the radiology community
  • How the project can be practically implemented
  • Measurable outcomes achieved (or potentially achieved) through the initiative, including environmental, operational or patient care benefits

Recognition

Projects submitted that complete the submission requirements will receive digital acknowledgement and be listed online. Selected submissions based on impact, innovation and scalability may be highlighted through RSNA channels.

Submission Deadline: Sept. 30

Your contribution inspires progress across the field and helps demonstrate how care, cost and environmental sustainability can work together.
