Annual business meeting minutes
The annual business meeting of the Radiological Society of North America was convened at RSNA 2017 at McCormick Place in Chicago, November 26 and 28.
Two sessions were held. The first was held on Sunday, November 26, at 10:15 am; the second session was held on Tuesday, November 28, at 10:00 am.
Richard L. Ehman, MD, president of the Society, presided throughout the sessions. Vijay M. Rao, MD, president-elect and secretary-treasurer, served as parliamentarian.
Minutes of the business meeting held at RSNA 2016 (sessions on Sunday, November 27, and Tuesday, November 29), which were published on RSNA.org, were approved.
The secretary-treasurer reported on registration figures for the meeting. As of Saturday, November 25, 2017, a total of 47,472 individuals pre-registered for the 103rd Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting. This total includes 23,270 professionals.
Reports were accepted from the officers. These reports can be found on RSNA.org.
Bylaws: Dennis M. Balfe, MD, chairman of the Committee on Bylaws and Resolutions, advised the membership that the Board of Directors recommended Bylaw amendments to add membership categories for medical students outside of North America; and graduate students, both North American and non-North American. The specific amendments were published in the November 2017 issue of Radiology
The following changes to the Bylaws were approved by a two-thirds majority vote of the Society members present and voting at the Business Session. Proposed new text is bold, and deleted text is struck through.
2.10 Categories of Membership are:
2.14 Medical Student Members. Medical Student membership in the Society consists of students enrolled in a medical school
in a North American country.
2.141 Medical School requirements. Each applicant for Medical Student membership must
reside in, andbe enrolled in a medical school in, a North American country.
2.145 Tenure of Medical Student Membership. Medical student members may remain in this category until the attainment of the degree of Doctor of Medicine or its equivalent.
2.19 Graduate Student Members. Graduate Student Membership in the Society consists of students enrolled in an accredited graduate program.
2.191 Graduate Program Requirements. The Graduate Programs from which Graduate students will be eligible for Graduate Student Membership will be determined by the Board of Directors and set forth in a Board approved policy.
2.192 Rights and Privileges. Graduate student members shall have certain rights and privileges as determined by the Board of Directors.
2.193 Dues and Assessments. Graduate student members are liable for such dues and assessments as are determined by the Board of Directors.
2.194 Tenure of Graduate Student Membership. Graduate student members may remain in this category until the attainment of a Graduate degree.
Dr. Balfe advised the membership that the Board of Directors recommended Bylaw amendments to delete the requirement that standing committees of RSNA be required to submit an annual written report that is transmitted to the membership. The specific amendments were published in the November 2017 issue of Radiology.

1.1133 Each standing committee shall render a written report at least once a year. Reports shall be submitted through the Board of Directors to the membership.
3.134 Secretary-Treasurer. …Not later than six months after each Annual Meeting of the Society, the Secretary-Treasurer shall cause to be distributed to each member a summary of the minutes of the annual business meeting of the members, including the reports of all officers
and committees. …
Awards: The president announced to the membership, and for the official record, that
Honorary Memberships were awarded to Hassen A. Gharbi, MD, PhD, Tunis, Tunisia; Renato A. Mendonça, MD, PhD, São Paulo, Brazil; and Katrine Riklund, MD, Umeå, Sweden. The president also announced that Gold Medals, the highest honor of the Society, were presented to George S. Bisset III, MD, Houston, Texas; J. William Charboneau, MD, Rochester, Minnestoa; and Roderic I. Pettigrew, PhD, MD, Bethesda, Maryland.
Election: The Committee on Nominations consisted of Theresa C. McLoud, MD, Boston, Massachusetts and the late Richard L. Baron, MD, Chicago, Illinois, members; and Vijay M. Rao, MD, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Chairman. Dr. Rao presented the committee’s slate of nominees for election.
The officers elected were: President-Elect/Secretary-Treasurer Valerie P. Jackson, MD, Tucson, Arizona; First Vice-President David C. Levin, MD, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Second Vice-President Katherine P. Andriole, PhD, Dedham, Massachusetts; Third Vice-President Carolyn C. Meltzer, MD, Atlanta, Georgia; Board Member to serve a six-year term, Umar Mahmood, MD, PhD, Charlestown, Massachusetts.
There was no new business presented and no unfinished business.
