Science to Practice

Science to Practice is a commentary on a novel basic science investigation or technical development published in the journal. These are solicited by the editor and are authored by an expert in field. Science to Practice highlights the problem addressed, the significance of the findings, and, most important, the potential clinical consequences of this advance. It must contain the following sections: The Setting, The Science, The Practice (with subsections Clinical Use and Future Opportunities and Challenges), and Summary. These submissions should not exceed 900 words and should include up to seven references, including the companion article.

Note: These manuscripts are solicited by the editor in a time-critical manner to be published in conjunction with a basic science research manuscript.

Please see From the Editor in the August 2003 issue of Radiology, where the intent of Science to Practice is explained; also see recently published Science to Practice articles before you embark on preparing your manuscript. The section subtitles are: The Setting, The Science, The Practice (with subsection headings, Clinical Use and Future Opportunities and Challenges), and Summary. For the manuscript you prepare, please formulate the title in terms of a question that would be appropriate for the material found in the article about which you are writing. Please do not directly contact the authors of the manuscript about which you are writing. If you have a question for the authors, contact Pamela Lepkowski (plepkowski@rsna.org), and she will contact the authors on your behalf.

Science to Practice is meant to allow our readers to understand in nontechnical language the basic research that was performed so that they can appreciate how this may eventually translate from the science of the research into clinical practice. The editor will select an image from the article about which you are writing; that image will be included in your publication, but if you believe a graph, chart, or other type of illustration might help to crystallize or simplify the message of the manuscript about which you are writing, please let us know. Once you have finalized your Science to Practice manuscript, send it to us as an e-mail attachment (plepkowski@rsna.org).
