Instructions for Submission of Original Manuscripts

Step 1: Manuscript Type, Title, Abstract

Select manuscript type, and enter your title into the appropriate box. To enter your abstract, copy and paste from your document into the abstract box; type “N/A” if submitting a manuscript that does not require an abstract (eg, editorial, letter). Use the Special Characters button to insert special characters.

Step 2: Attributes

Manuscript attributes, also known as manuscript categorization terms, facilitate proper reviewer assignment and can be selected from the list (control-click to select multiple words) by clicking on Add; you may also enter a term and click on Search to search the list of keywords.

Step 3: Authors and Institutes

Click on Add a New Author to enter co-author information, then click Add to My Authors. To check if an author already exists in the database, type in the author’s e-mail address and click Find. If the author is found, their information will be automatically filled in for you. Note: Each co-author must have an e-mail address.

Step 4: Details and Comments

Cover Letter.–Type or paste your cover letter text into the “Cover Letter” box. You may also submit the entire cover letter as an attachment. Click on “Browse”, locate your letter, and click “Attach this cover letter”.

Summary Statement.–Copy and paste the summary statement in the box. This statement should be in boldface in the text.

Tables and Figure Components.–Indicate the number of tables and figure parts you are uploading, and indicate if any are in color.

Step 5: File Upload

Upload your manuscript and any supporting files in groups of six or fewer. Your text and figures will be converted into a PDF file for viewing and printing with Acrobat Reader (Adobe Systems; San Jose, Calif) as well as an HTML file for web access.

When uploading images, use the File Tags field to link text to image files. For example, type “Figure 1” in the file tag field to link the image with the term “Figure 1”. (You may also include the caption or legend but it must match the text in your manuscript for correct linking. Caption text will appear below the figure.) Upon viewing the HTML, clicking on Figure 1 will then bring up the linked image.

Step 6: Review and Submit

Review the My Manuscript Information chart (steps 1–5) for accuracy; make changes as needed. View both the HTML and PDF proofs before clicking Finish to complete your submission. Print the confirmation screen and use this information with any correspondence with the Editorial Office. You can return to your Corresponding Author Center at any time to check the status of your manuscript.

Finalizing Submission

The Author Contribution form, in which authors identify the manuscript contributions for which they are responsible, is sent automatically via e-mail immediately after manuscript submission. Contact the Radiology Editorial office (617-236-7376) with any questions.

The Transfer of Copyright and Certifications Agreement for all proffered works is also sent automatically via e-mail immediately after manuscript submission. In the case of officers or employees of the U.S. government, the Society recognizes that works prepared as part of their official government duties are in the public domain, but authors must still sign the Copyright and Certifications Agreement. Contact the Radiology Editorial office (617-236-7376) with any questions.
