Figure Captions

Figures should appear sequentially in the text. A caption must be supplied for each illustration, including drawings and graphs. It should not duplicate text material and should follow the style used in recent issues of the Journal. All captions should appear collectively on one or more pages at the end of the main document. For images of human subjects, the legend should include the age, sex, and clinical history /disease of the patient, if relevant to the case. For studies on animals, the type of animal (and age, weight, and/or diagnosis, if appropriate) should be mentioned. Figures should be cropped to the region of interest (excluding patient identifying information) while allowing for assessment of pertinent surrounding anatomic information. It is essential that the caption describe all labels placed on an illustration. The caption should include the type of image, its plane, whether or not contrast material was used, the pulse sequence information for MR images (in general, full details of the MR sequences should be given in the methods not in the caption), and the features to be observed by the reader. For photomicrographs, include the stain and original magnification. Use scale markers where appropriate. For drawings and graphs, the caption must state the important points to be observed.
