Panel A An endobronchial obstructionresults in postobstructive pneumonia in a lower lobe. Panel B With progressive inflammation, the pulmonary arterysupplying the affected portion of the lung becomes obstructed. Panel C The small arteries normally located in the pulmonary ligament progressively hypertrophy to provide systemic blood supply to the chronically inflamed lung parenchyma, resulting in the formation of an intralobar sequestration.
