Angiomyolipomas and leiomyomas are the most common lesions in the spectrum of adult renal hamartomas. Angiomyolipomas are characterized radiologically by the presence of fat, which should be confirmed with CT or MR imaging. Small, uncomplicated angiomyolipomas are managed conservatively, whereas larger such lesions are resected. Although leiomyomas may have suggestive features, they cannot be distinguished from renal cell carcinomas, and surgical removal, possibly with nephron sparing, is indicated.
