Figure 11: Pneumatosis intestinalis in a 16-year-old boy with CF, incidentally noted at abdominal CT performed to evaluate liver disease with portal hypertension. CT scan demonstrates linear and cystic collections of mural gas (arrows) in the distal transverse colon. There was no evidence of thoracic air leak on concurrently obtained chest radiographs. The patient had undergone a splenectomy. Note the large coronary collateral veins in the lesser omentum (black arrowheads) and the dilated tortuous left inferior phrenic vein (white arrowhead), which communicated with splenorenal varices (seen on a more inferior section).
