Invasion of vital structures in a man with MPM. Panel A Unenhanced CT scan obtained at the level of the carina shows massive invasion of the mediastinum; definable mediastinal anatomic structures are obscured. The trachea (arrowhead) is encased and narrowed. Tumor mass cannot be distinguished from enlarged metastatic lymph nodes. Tumor abuts the ascending and descending aorta but does not encase these structures. Calcified pleural plaques are seen in the left hemithorax. Panel B CT scan through the inferior extent of the tumor shows diaphragmatic and hepatic invasion (arrows) and periaortic lymphadenopathy.
