Figure 21:
Calcification in a 65-year-old man with MPM. Unenhanced CT scan (mediastinal window) shows a massive tumor filling the right hemithorax without mediastinal shift. Tumor invasion of the mediastinum is indicated by the loss of fat planes in the middle mediastinum posterior to the heart and surrounding the esophagus and by thickening of the pericardium. The tumor has invaded the right anterior chest wall, causing bone destruction and enlargement of the right chest wall musculature. A calcified pleural plaque is visible in the left paravertebral region. A dense focus of calcification in the anterior portion of the right hemithorax represents a calcified pleural plaque that has been engulfed by tumor.
