Figure 6: FNH in a 31-year-old woman with a history of endometriosis who presented with abdominal pain. Panel A Unenhanced CT scan shows a well-defined, low-attenuation mass in the left lobe of the liver. A central scar (arrow) is noted. Panel B CT scan obtained after intravenous administration of contrast material shows homogeneous enhancement of the mass, similar to that of the adjacent liver parenchyma, during the portal venous phase. The small stellate area of enhancement within the central scar (arrow) represents the central vessels traversing the surrounding myxomatous scar. The apparent size of the low-attenuation scar has decreased due to diffusion of contrast material into the myxomatous components. Two other masses were also observed in the caudate and right lobes of the liver (not shown). Panel C Anterior technetium-99m sulfur colloid scan shows increased uptake within the three masses within the left, right, and caudate lobes (arrows). Panel D Gross specimen of the resected right lobe mass shows a large, nodular, lobulated, yellow-tan lesion. Subsequently, biopsy of the other two masses was performed, and the findings were consistent with FNH.
