FNH is a benign lesion that probably develops as a response to a congenital vascular malformation. The good vascular supply to this lesion accounts for its homogeneous nature. It is usually less than 5 cm in diameter. The presence of hepatocellular and reticuloendothelial function and a typical morphology, including a central scar with vessels and bile ductules, are signature features of this lesion. There is excellent correlation between the pathologic and radiologic findings that may be brought out with various imaging modalities. Unfortunately, the differentiation between FNH and other primary and secondary hepatic lesions on the basis of radiologic findings is not always possible, and imaging follow-up, needle biopsy, or even surgical resection may be required in some cases.
