Figure 4: Ruptured intracranial dermoid inclusion cyst in a 66-year-old woman. Panel A Sagittal T1-weighted MR image shows a retroclival hyperintense mass. Several hyperintense droplets (arrow) are scattered within the subarachnoid space anterior to the corpus callosum. Panel B Frontal view of the gross specimen shows the ruptured dermoid cyst, which is the yellowish mass in the middle, under the frontal lobes and anterior to the brain stem. Dermoid inclusion cysts are often called "buttery" tumors because of their yellow color and soft consistency. The patient died of chemical meningitis produced by the irritating effects of the spilled sebaceous lipid material.
