Figure 16: Mature cystic teratoma of the tongue in a 3-month-old girl. Panel A Sagittal gadolinium-enhanced T1-weighted MR image shows a multicystic, nonenhancing mass involving the tongue above the mylohyoid muscle. Panel B Sagittal T2-weighted MR image shows a homogeneous, hyperintense mass in the anterior tongue. Because the mass is multilocular within the tongue but anterior to the foramen cecum, it is more likely to be a teratoma rather than a thyroglossal duct cyst. A ranula is extremely uncommon in this age group. Scale is in centimeters.
