Figure 11:
Soft-tissue lymphangioma of the buttock (discovered at birth) in a 3-year-old boy. Panel A Axial T1-weighted MR image shows a subcutaneous lesion largely composed of low-signal-intensity cavernous spaces (arrows). Panel B Axial T2-weighted MR image shows that these spaces have high signal intensity (arrowheads). Hemangioma was suspected, but the arteriogram (not shown) was normal. Panel C Radiograph, obtained after the lesion was punctured with a needle and clear milky fluid was aspirated, shows the cavernous lymphangioma distended with air and contrast material (arrows). Panel D T2-weighted axial MR image, obtained 6 months after subsequent sclerotherapy with alcohol, shows shrinkage of the lesion (arrowheads) Panel E Photomicrograph (original magnification, approximately X100; hematoxylin-eosin stain) shows dilated cavernous spaces lined by endothelium (*).
