Figure 18: Malignant hemangioendothelioma of bone in a 66-year-old woman with a 6-month history of leg pain. Panel A Radiograph of the lower leg shows multicentric, aggressive, lytic lesions (arrowheads), with several areas of honeycomb and a hole-within-hole appearance. Panel B Photograph of the gross specimen reveals large hemorrhagic foci (arrows), corresponding to the radiographic lesions. Panel C Photomicrograph (original magnification, approximately X100; hematoxylin-eosin stain) shows strands of spindled endothelial cells with small areas of poorly developed vascular channels (*).
