CT of recurrent disease in a patient who had undergone a low anterior resection for colon carcinoma. He presented with a rising carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level 18 months after the initial operation. CT scan demonstrates surgical clips about the anastomotic site and associated thickening of the rectal wall. There is asymmetric enlargement of the obturator internus muscle, which was found at biopsy to harbor recurrent disease. Arrow = biopsy needle.
