Dr Bisset is chief of pediatric radiology at Texas Children's Hospital and a professor of radiology and Edward B. Singleton Chair of Pediatric Radiology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. As president, he is committed to upholding RSNA's strategic plan, which is dedicated to patient care, promoting education and research, and fostering technologic innovations.
"In my role as president, I have several pressing goals for the coming year," Dr Bisset said. "We will carefully focus on our newly redesigned strategic plan and, in a continuing quest to enhance member benefits, we will seek to provide more opportunities for interactive and point-of-service education."
He also names as a priority the optimization of radiation dose in children and adults undergoing medical imaging—"Patients First" is the theme he has chosen for RSNA 2012.
Dr Bisset earned his medical degree in 1975 at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. At Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), Dr Bisset completed his pediatric residency in 1977 and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology in 1980. In 1983, he began his radiology residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, combined with a pediatric radiology fellowship at CCHMC, completing both in 1986.
From 1980 to 1983, Dr Bisset was an assistant professor of pediatrics at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. In the past, he has been an assistant and associate professor of radiology and pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (UCCM). He was professor of radiology with tenure at UCCM from 1993 to 1994. More recently, Dr Bisset was professor of radiology and pediatrics, as well as staff radiologist at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C., where he served as vice-chairman of the Department of Radiology from 1995 to 2008. He was interim chairman of the Department of Radiology at Duke from November 2008 to March 2010.
Dr Bisset has authored or coauthored more than 20 book chapters and nearly 200 scientific papers and abstracts. He is currently a reviewer for Radiology, American Journal of Roentgenology, Pediatric Radiology and Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology. Dr Bisset has been invited to lecture at nearly 100 medical schools and meetings throughout North America, Japan, Europe and South America. He has also been a visiting professor at numerous universities and medical schools in North America and Japan.
During his career, Dr Bisset has been an active member of various medical organizations and societies. He is currently a member of the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR), among others. He received the ACR's Distinguished Committee Service Award in 2002. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
He has served on a number of SPR committees, as well as on the board of directors from 1998 to 2001. He received the society's bronze medal in 1988 and the John Caffey Award in 2001. Dr Bisset has been actively involved with the Association of University Radiologists, the American Roentgen Ray Society and the American Board of Radiology, where he served as a Trustee from 2001 to 2009.
A longtime RSNA member, Dr Bisset served on the pediatric subcommittee of the RSNA Scientific Program Committee from 1990 to 1998 and chaired the Scientific Program Committee in 2001. He was elected to the RSNA Board of Directors in 2004 and has been the Board education liaison since 2005. In 2010, Dr Bisset served as Board chairman.
