The above quote from a grant recipient tells the RSNA Research & Education Foundation story. But it's even more: To the grant recipient quoted above, the Foundation represents a jump start for his career; to the field of radiology, the Foundation assures a highly recognized, important medical specialty; and to the patient, the Foundation assures new and effective procedures and treatments.
Mission
The RSNA Research & Education Foundation mission is to improve patient care by supporting research and education in radiology and related scientific disciplines through funding grants and awards to individuals and institutions that will advance radiologic research, education and practice.
Since its inception in 1984, the Foundation has awarded $37 million in grant funding for nearly 1000 young investigators. The real value, however, is far greater--surveys show that for every $1 granted by the Foundation, recipients have received over 30 additional dollars in subsequent funding from other sources, such as the NIH, NIBIB, and NCI. In the final analysis, $37 million for jump-start grants to young investigators has resulted in $1 billion in funding for radiology research and education.
Board of Trustees
The RSNA R&E Foundation is governed by a 12-member Board of Trustees, comprised of individuals representing radiology, radiation oncology, medical physics, corporate relations and fund development.
